Dagon Ditty

Here’s a little verse to recount what is recorded in 1 Samuel 5. I like that the verse is light in form, yet takes stability to an extreme in its line length, line count, and rhyme pattern. Condensing the story into 16 syllables forces an uncomplicated remembrance culminating in a calm, assured conclusion in the last line.  Enjoy!

His name, Dagon

His hands, dey gone

Ashdod’s day gone

Yahweh dae go’on
